The Issue

We reside on North 3rd street, Oxford, a place we call home. The street that should be a safe haven for us, especially for our children and our neighborhood kids, has instead turned into a relentless source of danger due to excessive speeding.

We are not isolated in this struggle. Studies indicate that residential areas with prevalent speeding face a significant increase in accidents, especially involving pedestrians (National Safety Council). This perilous behavior on our streets makes even simple tasks like crossing the street feel like a dare with life.

Our plea lies with Oxford's local government and PennDot to implement traffic calming solutions on North 3rd Street. These might include digital speed limit signs, speed humps, raised crosswalks, or any effective measures that has been studied and observed to mitigate speeding hence keeping the pedestrian, chiefly children, safer.

It is our collective duty as a community to protect our young ones and ensure the safety of all residents. Speed management is not an option, it is a necessity to keep our streets safe and peaceful. This is a plea to our local government, interveners and stakeholders to address this issue promptly. Please, sign this petition and take a stand for safer streets in Oxford.
