Implement Traffic Calming Measures on Dougrie Road, Castlemilk

Implement Traffic Calming Measures on Dougrie Road, Castlemilk
The Issue
As members of the parent council at Castleton Primary School, Castlemilk Glasgow G45 9NW, we see and hear daily concerns about the safety of our children on Dougrie Road. There have been numerous near-miss accidents involving speeding vehicles, dangerous overtakes and irresponsible parking along this main thoroughfare just outside this primary school. Each day, we see potential disasters averted only by the diligence of our school Janitorial staff and one local community Police Officer. But they can't do it all and it is an undeniable truth that it is an accident waiting to happen. We urgently need appropriate measures in place to prevent a tragic incident. We propose the following changes to enhance the safety of our children:
1. Traffic calming measures: To discourage speeding, we call for the implementation of speed bumps on Dougrie Road.
2. Updated signage: Advisory signs should be modernised or digitalised to draw the attention of drivers and make them aware of schoolchildren crossing.
3. Additional crossing patroller: We demand an additional road crossing patroller situated at the main entrance of the school, aligning with the location of the existing bus stops and one dedicated to our school.
According to the Road Safety Observatory, implementing these measures can significantly decrease the number of road accidents. They reported that traffic calming measures such as speed humps reduce accidents by around 40%. Also, engaging more crossing patrollers can reduce accidents by up to 35% near schools. This is an opportunity to ensure the safety of our children. This is about their lives.
Join us, sign our petition and urge Glasgow City Council to pay immediate attention to Dougrie Road. The time to act is now - before we face an unimaginable tragedy.
