As a long-term resident of Fairwood, I have witnessed the transformation of our community over the past 30 years. Our population has doubled, yet one thing remains unchanged - the road conditions on 140th. This stretch from Petrovisky to 192nd is a semi-flat four-lane road with a middle turn lane that lacks any calming measures. This absence allows reckless drivers to reach excessive speeds, endangering all who use this road.

In just under two years, six lives have been tragically lost due to excessive speed of over 80 mph on this stretch. These are not mere statistics; these were our neighbors and friends whose lives were cut short unnecessarily.

The time for change is now. We propose two potential solutions: adding an updated traffic signal at the intersection of 140/192nd that includes a steady red turning arrow for vehicles turning left or installing a roundabout as an effective calming measures along that stretch of road between Carriage Crest and Windham Ridge.  

These changes will not only deter reckless driving but also enhance overall safety for all road users in Fairwood and Cascade-Fairwood communities. Let's ensure no more lives are lost due to preventable accidents on our roads.
