On October 6th, a tragic accident occurred on our streets involving a 3-year-old boy. This innocent child is now on life support with brain damage and other extensive injuries. This heartbreaking incident took place in our community, on the streets of State Avenue, Oyler’s School Zone, Storr Street, and Hatmaker Street in Cincinnati, OH.

Our roads should be safe for all users - drivers, cyclists and especially pedestrians. However, the current state of traffic management in these areas is proving to be insufficient to ensure this safety. The lack of effective traffic calming measures has led to speeding vehicles and dangerous conditions that put lives at risk every day.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than one-fifth of children between the ages of 5 and 9 who were killed in traffic crashes were pedestrians. These statistics are not just numbers; they represent real people - our neighbors' children or maybe even your own.

We urge local authorities to take immediate action by implementing effective traffic calming measures such as speed humps or roundabouts on State Avenue, Oyler’s School Zone, Storr Street and Hatmaker Street. These proven strategies can significantly reduce vehicle speed thereby increasing safety for all road users.
