This is a deeply personal thrashing against a system that failed to protect a vulnerable child. Tra was a young and promising student, groomed and exploited by his teacher from 9th to 11th grade. He endured indescribable abuse, asked to exchange nudes for better grades, drugged, and violated. As a result of this assault, the system's disinterest, and the associated trauma, Tra made the heartbreaking decision to end his life on 06/19/2021.

Following Tra's tragic death, the case was reopened and an investigation led to a gruesome discovery - over 6000 explicit pictures of county students, making it the biggest child pornography case in our state. Shockingly, no one seems to be talking about it.

We are calling for the implementation of 'Trabow's Law', which would hold teachers accountable for all their actions, good and bad. Every accusation against a teacher, true or false, must follow them to any job involving children even across state lines! When it comes to a teacher doing anything inappropriate with a child the “ accountability age” should not apply in this situation. The teacher took an oath to teach, protect our children not take their innocence. The sentence must be more severe because we are legally obligated to trust our children with them. As parents, we teach our children to respect, listen, and learn from their teachers. We must ensure these teachers do not abuse such trust in the horrific ways my son suffered.

Teachers have the power to shape our children's futures - Tra's law would ensure that only those worthy of this immense responsibility would be allowed to continue on this noble profession. We owe it to Tra and countless others like him to bring about systemic change that ensures the safety of our children in schools. Never again should a child have their innocence stripped away by those tasked with nurturing it.
