Implement the Requirement of a Driver's Permit for Motorcycle Riding

Implement the Requirement of a Driver's Permit for Motorcycle Riding
The Issue
On a heartbreaking Sunday, March 30th, 2025, my four-year-old nephew, Calvin, lost his life in a motorcycle accident. Despite him and his stepfather wearing DOT helmets and adhering to all currently in-place safety regulations, the safeguards proved insufficient. A child's life was tragically cut short, showing the pressing need for more stringent safety laws surrounding motorcycle riding, particularly involving young children.
Statistics from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reveal that, in 2017, motorcyclists were 27 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled. Also, children and young people are more prone to serious injuries in motorcycle accidents due to their size and the lack of proper fit of safety equipment.
My tender-aged nephew’s unfortunate death could have been avoided if only a more robust law didn't allow children to legally ride on motorcycles. Enforcing the requirement of a driver's permit for motorcycle riding, especially when a child is involved, could prevent such devastating incidences.
Our demand is simple – Embed the need for a driver's permit into law to prevent another family from having to live through this agony, and to save many young lives from being unnecessarily lost.
Join us and support this cause. Help us make a difference by ensuring this tragedy doesn't repeat itself. Please sign the petition today. Everyone's support counts, and together, we can bring about change and protect our children.
