Implement the AHIMAA, Protecting Incarcerated Individuals' Medical Rights

The Issue

Our cherished son, Al'Mir Montrell Harris, a young man barely 23 years old, lost his future in an unjust and heartbreaking manner at Baldwin State Prison, Georgia on New Year's Eve 2024. A tragic casualty of appalling neglect, Al'Mir was denied the essential medical care that could have lent him the chance to live a bright and hopeful life. This story is not just about Al'Mir, but about countless incarcerated individuals who are neglected and treated without due respect for their basic human rights.

It's crucial to remind ourselves that incarcerated individuals are protected by the Eighth Amendment, which guarantees the right to access adequate medical care. Yet every day, we witness these rights being violated resulting in heartbreaking stories like Al'Mir's.

Therefore, the need for legislation is pressing. We call for the introduction of the AHIMAA - Almir Harris Inmate Medical Accountability Act. This act will reinforce the Eighth Amendment, ensuring that no incarcerated individual is subjected to medical neglect, a form of cruel and unusual punishment that our constitution forbids.

It's a matter of life or death. The implementation of AHIMAA can prevent needless suffering, letting us ensure that no more lives are lost tragically and prematurely, like Al'Mir's.

For the sake of protecting health, upholding justice, and preserving human dignity within our prison system, we beseech all concerned authorities to support and implement the AHIMAA. This is more than a fight for human rights, it's a fight for preserving the essence of our humanity. Stand with us to make the AHIMAA a reality and to prevent more lives from being lost to unjust medical neglect. Sign this petition today. #AlmirHarris #Justiceforalmir #sayhisname #Autismawareness

I'm autistic and I really don't want any of the people in government to know where I am and my medical history and records. It's a massive invasion of privacy
