When I walk down the streets of my town, I can't help but notice the amount of trash littering our community spaces. It hurts me deeply, knowing the disrespect it implies not only to our environment but also to everyone residing within our community.

Every year, tons of litter end up in oceans, beaches, forests and other natural spaces, causing not just visual pollution but harmful effects on wildlife too. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that littering can lead to infestations of rats and insects, damage to plant life, and even pose serious health risks to children who play in littered areas.

Our local government has a role to play in shaping attitudes towards littering and managing our waste more efficiently. We must press for stricter littering laws, initiation of regular clean-ups, and the launch of educational programs aimed at raising awareness about the environmental and social impacts of littering.
