Implement Stricter Speed Limits and Safety Measures in Gorsley School Zone

The Issue

Every day, we walk our children to and from school in Gorsley, Ross-on-Wye. With each passing day, the risk of a tragic accident due to dangerous driving increases. The weight of traffic is growing heavier, with an alarming number of HGV vehicles seemingly forgetting they are no longer on a motorway. In 2018, we mourned the loss of a pedestrian due to these hazardous conditions - we cannot stand by and let our children be next.

We are calling for immediate action to reduce the speed limit around the school zone to 20mph during peak times and 30mph at all other times through our village up to the Herefordshire/Gloucestershire Border. Alongside this reduction in speed limit, it is crucial that new and improved signage is installed from the motorway junction; red tarmac should be laid down indicating a school zone; protective safety barriers must be erected outside our playground; and a solid white line needs implementation as deterrent against dangerous overtaking.

According to Road Safety GB (2019), lower speeds reduce both crash occurrence and severity - especially among vulnerable road users like children. We believe these measures will significantly improve safety for everyone using these roads.

Please join us in urging local authorities to take immediate action before another life is lost on our streets. Sign this petition today!
