I have personally witnessed the chaotic aftermath of hit and runs, reckless cycling, and other acts of careless cycling in the UK. Far too often, motorists find themselves powerless against cyclists who are in the wrong, creating a massive grey area that compromises the safety and harmony of our roads.

Cycling laws in the UK need to be revisited and revised, paving way for stricter rules that protect all road users. While it is true that the majority of cyclists adhere to rules and prioritize road safety, the actions of the few who do not should not be ignored. Pedestrians and motorists deserve a safe environment free from the hazard of reckless cycling.

In the last few years, the UK has seen an alarming increase in cyclist-related traffic incidents. For instance, in 2019, a reported 4,353 cyclists were seriously injured on UK roads (source: Department for Transport). This alarming statistic speaks to the urgent need for an overhaul of cycling laws to ensure greater accountability.

If we fail to address this pressing issue, we risk further jeopardizing the safety of our roads. Therefore, we are making a plea to the legislators of the country, urging them to recognise this serious matter and implement stricter rules for cyclists.
