Implement Stricter Regulations for Animal Ownership and Sales

This petition is born out of a heartbreaking personal experience. A beautiful, one-year-old female bully was given to an irresponsible owner in Glasgow. She was fed harmful substances, beaten, and eventually killed - her body dumped like trash. This innocent creature suffered injuries all over her body before she was collected and cremated. Her death was senseless, tragic, and entirely preventable if only there had been stricter regulations in place.

Every day animals are sold through private sales on platforms like Gumtree or social media to people who are not equipped or willing to provide them with the care they deserve. Many of these animals end up neglected or abused by irresponsible owners.

The RSPCA reports that every year they receive around 1 million calls reporting animal cruelty - but this is just the tip of the iceberg as many cases go unreported (RSPCA Annual Report). We need laws that ensure potential pet owners are thoroughly vetted before they can take on the responsibility of caring for an animal.

We propose a law requiring background checks for potential pet owners along with home inspections prior to any sale or adoption process completion. Private sales through unregulated channels such as social media should be banned altogether.

Animals deserve better than what we're currently offering them; they deserve safe homes where they will be loved and cared for properly. It's time we put laws into place that protect our furry friends from falling into the wrong hands again.

Please sign this petition today to help us push for these necessary changes in legislation - let's give all animals a chance at a good home!
