Implement Stricter Pet Licensing Laws and Penalties in Texas

Implement Stricter Pet Licensing Laws and Penalties in Texas
The Issue
I am a resident of Texas who is deeply pained by the suffering of animals at the hands of irresponsible pet owners. Our state needs to take stronger measures to ensure the welfare of our pets, particularly dogs and cats.
Currently, there are no consistent regulations across our state regarding pet licensing. And the lax enforcement if existing laws perpetuate the Crisis . This lackadaisical approach leaves many pets vulnerable to neglect and abuse, as well as contributing to overpopulation issues. It's time for Texas to implement stricter pet licensing laws that include discounts for altered pets, heavy fines for unlicensed pets, and severe penalties including fines and jail time for animal abusers.
These measures would not only protect our beloved animals but also provide much-needed funding for rescue groups who tirelessly work towards rescuing abandoned or abused animals. According to ASPCA estimates, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S animal shelters nationwide every year - a significant portion from Texas alone (ASPCA). The proceeds from these proposed fines could significantly aid these organizations in their noble efforts.
We urge lawmakers in Texas to consider this proposal seriously - it is not just about penalizing wrongdoers but more importantly about safeguarding the lives of innocent creatures who depend on us for their wellbeing.
Proceeds from licensing fees and fines could FUND RESOURCES AND RESCUES. It is time to step up Texas - be examples of stewardship and compassion for all life.
Shelters are FULL, RESCUES are full. Animals are being euthanized in Texas at the HIGHEST RATE IN THE COUNTRY.
Please sign this petition if you believe that stricter pet licensing laws should be implemented in Texas along with harsher penalties against those who harm or neglect their pets.
