I am writing this petition out of a deep concern that has recently emerged in Miami. Some people, specially in Miami, are stealing and slaughtering horses. This issue is personal to me because these actions are not only cruel but also illegal. Despite this, the perpetrators continue as they face minimal consequences - a maximum of 1 year in prison and a fine up to $3500.

Horses are gentle creatures that deserve respect and protection. They play an important role in our society, from companionship to therapeutic uses. The current penalties do not reflect the severity of these crimes or provide sufficient deterrence.

In 2017 alone, over 100 horses were found butchered in Florida (source: South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). This number is likely higher due to unreported cases or undiscovered remains.

We need stricter laws that reflect the gravity of these crimes and serve as an effective deterrent against such cruel acts. We propose increasing jail time and fines significantly for those caught slaughtering horses for consumption.
