As an ardent animal lover, I am deeply pained by the daily instances of animal cruelty that our rescue centres are grappling with. The sheer inhumanity displayed towards these innocent creatures is beyond comprehension and it's time we take a stand against this. We need harsher punishments for those who purposefully neglect or cause unnecessary pain or death to animals.

The current legal framework does not sufficiently deter potential abusers, nor does it adequately punish those found guilty of such heinous acts. In fact, according to the Animal Legal Defense Fund's 2019 report, only 31% of animal abuse cases result in a conviction with most culprits getting away with bans from keeping animals,minor fines and short-term imprisonment.

We call upon our lawmakers to enforce criminal charges and implement stricter penalties for severe cases of animal abuse. This should include heavy fines and longer prison sentences that reflect the gravity of these crimes against nature.
