As a devoted animal lover and a witness to the horrific conditions that many animals face in our cities, I am taking a stand to call for stricter pet ownership and breeding laws. Our local rescues and shelters are reaching their breaking point, with thousands of animals being abandoned daily. These animals end up on our streets where they are unfortunately often killed.

Unscrupulous individuals are breeding pets for profit, only to abandon the parent animals once they've served their purpose. Irresponsible pet owners let their animals get pregnant through negligence, with the babies often ending up in situations where they face harm, torture, or death.

This is why we must insist on passing a law that mandates all pet owners to have their dogs or cats fixed and chipped within 60 days of acquiring them. Breeding should be strictly limited to licensed professional breeders. Furthermore, should these laws be violated, hefty fines of $1000 should be imposed on the offenders. Neglect and abuse of animals can no longer be tolerated, with a mandatory minimum sentence of three months being implemented for these heinous acts.

Every day, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats) according to the ASPCA. This alarming statistic only further highlights the urgent need for reform in our pet ownership and breeding laws.

It’s time for us to put a stop to this madness. Animals cannot speak for themselves, so it's upon us to be their voice. Let's create a humane world for all pets. Sign this petition and insist on change.
