Our community has recently experienced a tragic event - the brutal killing of a beloved pet cat by an unknown individual. This incident is not isolated. According to the Humane Society, nearly 1 million animals are abused or killed each year due to domestic violence in the Philippines alone (Humane Society, 2020). It's clear that our current laws and penalties are not enough to deter such heinous acts.

Cats, like all animals, deserve our respect and protection. They bring joy into our lives and contribute positively to our mental health. A study published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior found that owning a cat can decrease psychological stress levels (Journal of Veterinary Behavior, 2015).

We need stricter laws for animal cruelty that will serve as a strong deterrent against such actions. We call upon local lawmakers to review existing legislation and implement harsher penalties for animal abuse cases.
