I am deeply moved by the plight of animals that are neglected by their owners, left to fend for themselves on the streets, or worse. These creatures provide us with so much - companionship, mental health support, assistance during natural disasters and in many cases, they even serve as our food source. Dogs specifically play a crucial role in therapy and aid for people with disabilities; they detect drugs and herd livestock too.

However, it is disheartening to see that these animals often do not receive the care they deserve. Many die due to neglect from their owners while others are forced to live on the streets without anyone looking after them. This is not only an issue of animal rights but also a societal problem that needs immediate attention.

According to The Humane Society of United States (HSUS), nearly 1 million animals a year are abused or killed due to domestic violence alone in America [HSUS]. This statistic does not even account for those who suffer from neglect or abandonment.

We need stricter animal welfare laws that ensure all domestic and service animals receive proper care and protection from harm. These laws should hold pet owners accountable for their actions towards their pets' wellbeing.
