Implement Strict Rules for Softball Games and Treat Neighborhood Properties Respectfully

The Issue

(Dirt & debris)

I am a resident living next to a local school that uses its property to host softball games every Sunday. My vehicle, parked in front of my house, recently had its windshield cracked and wiper blade broken from a stray ball that crossed the fence. Nobody acknowledged the incident, let alone apologized. While we understand how vital outdoor play is for kids, we also believe in the importance of adult guidance, setting a good example for children to follow as responsible citizens. This occurrence isn't isolated, and the game has become a source of considerable concern due to the destruction caused by overflying balls which damage property on a regular basis and into our front and back yards.

The issue doesn’t end there. The post-match maintenance of the softball field unsettles a lot of dirt and debris into the air, affecting the air quality in our neighborhood and possibly posing a health risk, particularly to those with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Averagely, an American breathes 388 cubic feet of air per day (Source: USA Today), and we certainly don't want ours filled with dirt and debris from improper maintenance practices. The situation gets worse during Sunday games, with cars double parked or parked too close, causing further incidents including cars bumping into each other.

This urgent petition is a request directed at the school management and local authorities to carry out an immediate assessment and implementation of security measures. This can be as simple as the installation of higher fences and nets to keep balls within the field or a review of the maintenance procedures to control soil and particulate disturbance post-games.

We demand that the school and the local softball league implement stricter regulations for games, such as proper parking rules and a precautionary approach to prevent balls from entering private property. We also request an effective clean-up strategy post matches to minimize airborne debris.

Our community needs to enjoy the peace and security of its neighborhood, and our property and health should not be compromised. Support us in establishing a balance between the joy of play for kids and a peaceful living environment for the neighborhood. Sign this petition to promote responsible sporting practices in our community.
