The Issue

I come to you as a grieving parent who has experienced a most tragic loss. My beautiful son was just 19 years old, yet he was able to seek out and access harmful information on the internet, leading to his successful suicide. It is a pain that is raw and unrelenting.
Our children should only come across sources of hope and help when in distress; websites should direct those in crisis to helplines and simultaneously alert local authorities about the severity of the situation. In the absence of such measures, my son is not here with us anymore. I firmly believe that had this harmful information not been available, my child would still be alive and among us.

According to a report from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10 and 34. The internet's role in this statistic is becoming increasingly alarming. Lack of regulation and oversight has allowed harmful content to freely percolate - a situation that needs immediate rectification. It is our collective responsibility as a society to protect our most vulnerable whose lives may hang in the balance, impacted by the information they encounter online.

I urge you to stand with us in ensuring the implementation of strong guidelines and regulations to completely obliterate access to online suicide instructions. When one life is saved, it is more than worth it. Please sign this petition and lend your support to our cause.
