I am moved to take action due to the rampant instances of animal cruelty occurring within our community and worldwide. I believe that there should be severe punishment for those who abuse, kill, or abandon innocent animals. Beyond being morally reprehensible, these behaviors can also be indicators of potential human violence. Based on data from the Human Society, individuals who mistreat animals are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against people. This makes it vital that we treat animal cruelty as the serious crime that it is. I urge lawmakers to enact and enforce strict laws against animal cruelty in all its forms.
