Implement Strict Anti-Bullying Policies in Public and Private Schools

Implement Strict Anti-Bullying Policies in Public and Private Schools
The Issue
I write this petition from a place of personal pain and concern. Bullying has long been viewed as a rite of passage in schools, whether public or private, but the impact goes beyond the playground. For me, this issue is not abstract. Bullying is a catalyst that leads to terrible consequences like school shootings.
When schools allow bullying to occur unchecked, it creates a pervasive climate of fear and dread. A survey by the National Center for Education Statistics found that about 20% of students aged 12-18 reported being bullied during the 2016-2017 school year. Victims often turn into perpetrators, as they internalize the violence and humiliation they have experienced.
The correlation between bullying and school shootings is supported by research. According to a 2015 study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, shooters in 71% of 37 school attacks had been victims of bullying.
Therefore, implementing strict anti-bullying policies in public and private schools becomes crucial, not only to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students to learn, grow, and succeed, but also to potentially save lives. It's time to break the vicious cycle and ensure that every child can be safe in schools.
Today, I call upon education authorities and policymakers, the very people responsible for the conduct and climate of our schools, to implement stringent anti-bullying measures. I challenge them to prioritize the safety and well-being of students over any other factor. Anti-bullying education should be integrated into the curriculum, and regular monitoring, reporting, and counseling mechanisms should be in place.
Please sign this petition to urge public and private schools to invest in robust anti-bullying policies, creating nurturing school environments, preventing future tragedies, and transforming Iives for the better.
