On February 12th, 2024, my daughter (13years old) attempted to take her own life due to the relentless bullying she experienced at her bus stop and on the school bus. Despite reaching out for help, we were initially told by Yulee Middle School that there was nothing they could do because the incidents occurred on the bus. This is unacceptable.

Bullying is a serious issue that affects countless children every day. According to a study by Yale University, victims of bullying are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims (Yale University). Our children deserve better protection and support from their schools.

We demand that Yulee Middle School implement strict anti-bullying policies with real consequences for offenders starting from their first offense. We also ask for increased supervision during transportation times when many students are vulnerable. It's time our schools took responsibility for ensuring all students feel safe and respected in their learning environment.
