Implement Stop Signs and Speed Limits in Our Neighborhood

Implement Stop Signs and Speed Limits in Our Neighborhood

The Issue

I am a parent of two precious daughters who oftentimes play outside our home. Every day, I witness cars zooming down our residential streets at alarming speeds, well beyond what should be considered safe in a neighborhood, teeming with children. The absence of speed limit signs or stop signs exacerbates this issue, leaving us in constant fear for our children's safety.

According to the National Safety Council, speed is a contributing factor in 26% of all traffic fatalities, equating to more than 9,000 deaths in the United States in 2018 alone. These are not just figures; they represent people, families, children, much like ours, whose lives were abruptly cut short due to high-speed accidents that could have been prevented by proper speed regulation.

Our plea is simple yet urgent: We want stop signs and speed limit signs to be installed in our neighborhood. This will not only help enforce the speed limit but also educate drivers about the speed they should be maintaining in a residential area filled with children, thereby substantially reducing the risk of tragic accidents. Remember, waiting until a sudden, preventable disaster strikes, such as a child getting hit, is waiting too long.
