Implement Speed Tables on Tuttle Estate Streets for Safer Communities

The Issue

I write this petition today as a concerned resident of the Tuttle Estates Subdivision in Plainfield, Illinois, victimized by the peril reckless drivers pose to our peaceful neighborhood. Day after day, my family and I have faced frighteningly close encounters on Meadow, Pastoral, and Pavillion streets. From almost being hit during a stroll with my son on Pavillion to a near-miss accident at the crosswalk on Pastoral, these incidents are not isolated experiences.

Last summer, the havoc wreaked by vehicular speed crescendoed when my husband and neighbor intercepted a speeding car, preventing it from endangering our children’s lives. More recently, my daughters and I came close to being harmed crossing the crosswalk because of a vehicle failing to adhere to the rules. Scares like these are becoming all too common, with numerous residents sharing grievous tales of vehicular recklessness.

Installing speed tables in our community may significantly mitigate this issue. According to the Federal Highway Administration, speed tables reduce vehicle speed by an average of 25% and accidents by 45% (Federal Highway Administration, "Speed Management measures - Speed Tables"). This safety measure is more effective than installing stop signs alone, which are often disregarded by these dangerous drivers. With the growing concern of residents’ safety within our neighborhood, especially our children's, it is necessary to take stringent measures.

Hence, this petition demands the prompt installation of speed tables on Meadow, Pastoral, and Pavillion streets within the Tuttle Estates subdivision. It's time we prioritized our community's safety over the convenience of fast drivers passing through. Let us together transform our neighborhood into a safer heaven. Sign this petition as a call to action for the local authorities. Our voices need to be heard and acted upon.
