My family's personal story is marred by a tragic event that occurred on Central Boulevard in 2021. My friend lost his life due to a motor vehicle accident that took place on this very street. Living directly behind this accident-prone street, my family and I experience recurring darkness after each accident. The number of these incidents is distressingly high, making this an issue that needs immediate attention.

According to the National Association of City Transportation Officials, speed bumps are effective traffic calming measures that decrease the severity and incidences of crashes, particularly in residential areas. They also report that a reduction in vehicle speed can decrease the risk of pedestrian fatalities by up to 60% (NACTO, 2019).

Cities must prioritize the safety of their residents and act to prevent such tragedies. The need for speed bumps on Central Boulevard is evident. The implementation of these traffic calming measures will not only safeguard the residents in the vicinity but potentially save countless lives in the future.
