Our children and their friends love to play outside, riding bikes, scooters, and running freely from yard to yard on Corteland Drive in Upper St. Clair. However, the joy of these simple activities has been overshadowed by the alarming speed at which cars travel down our street.

The proximity of speeding vehicles to playing children is frightening and poses an unacceptable danger. The peace of our neighborhood is constantly disrupted by the fear of potential accidents.

This petition is a call to action for the Upper St. Clair Township to address this growing concern by installing a speed bump on Corteland Drive. Speed bumps are a proven and effective way to reduce vehicle speeds, thereby protecting pedestrians and, most importantly, our children. 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic-calming measures such as speed bumps can reduce speeds by as much as 50%, significantly diminishing the likelihood of accidents. Implementing a speed bump will ensure that drivers are compelled to slow down, creating a safer environment for our children to play and thrive.
