The Issue

As someone who has personally encountered and suffered from an unhealthy working environment in India, I can empathize with the countless others who undergo the same ordeal. My own experience has exposed me to the repercussions of workplace toxicity. The detrimental effects of bad mental health induced by an oppressive work environment are a reality for many employees in our country, and it is a reality we must change.

While India has several existing laws and regulations indirectly protecting employees from psychological harm, there isn't a standalone law solely focused on workplace psychology. This makes the battle against mental harassment and harm in the workplace a complex and often overlooked issue.

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that depression and anxiety have a significant economic impact; the estimated cost to the global economy is US$ 1 trillion per year in lost productivity. Harassment and bad working conditions make workplaces a significant contributor to this problem. This is a global issue and rampantly present in India, often leading to lower productivity, increased absenteeism, and high attrition rates.

Therefore, I am advocating for the development and implementation of a specific, standalone law focusing on workplace psychology within India. Such a law would go a long way in protecting the psychological well-being of employees, making the workplace a safer, more productive space where employees aren't dying out of reporting to a toxic manager.

Join me in appealing to lawmakers to put mental health and psychological safety at the forefront of their labor laws. Our collective voice can influence change and make workplaces in India safer and healthier. Please sign this petition; your support can make a world of difference.
