I am a pet owner, specifically of a dog who is absolutely terrified of fireworks. This fear is not unique to my pet alone; countless animals, both domestic and wild, suffer from the loud noises produced by these celebratory explosives. Tragically, there have been instances where wild animals have died from fright due to unexpected firework displays.

Fireworks are not just a nuisance for our furry friends. The World Health Organization has identified noise pollution as an environmental stressor for humans too. The loud bangs can cause sleep disturbances, cardiovascular effects and even cognitive impairment in children.

To address this issue, we propose two solutions: firstly, the implementation of silent fireworks - an innovation that Italy has already adopted in several towns to protect animals; secondly, restricting firework displays to set days such as the 5th of November (Guy Fawkes Night), Diwali and New Year’s Eve. This way people can still enjoy these traditions without causing unnecessary distress.
