There are roughly 11-18 million people in the UK battling hearing loss - a disability only second in frequency to any other in the country, we urge to make a change in our National Curriculum. Daily, individuals at every age battle communication barriers due to hearing loss, stripping them of the chance to interact effectively. Integrating Sign Language into our educational system holds the potential to bridge this divide. The implementation of Sign Language as a required subject in our National Curriculum will allow, not just inclusivity, but also equip everyone with a skill that would build a firmer sense of community. 

Studies show that signing enhances spelling, reading abilities, and overall academic performance (Visual Language and Visual Learning Science of Learning Center). Hence, it won't replace foreign languages but would add a value that based on the lived experiences of millions, is of much weightier importance. We wish to uphold the rights of these individuals by equipping everyone with the ability to communicate regardless of hearing faculties.
