The Issue

Our community in Reedy Fork is expanding rapidly; the volume of pedestrian, bike, and vehicular traffic along the stretch of Reedy Fork Parkway and Turner Smith Road continues to grow. As residents of this area, we are increasingly concerned about the safety of those commuting through these roads. We have witnessed firsthand how dangerous roads can become without proper safety measures in place.

As a result, we are respectfully requesting that the City of Greensboro's Departments of Transportation and Public Safety take immediate action to address this issue. Specifically, we propose two key changes: deploying a school crossing guard for Reedy Fork Elementary School to ensure our children's safety during their daily commute to school; and installing street lights along Reedy Fork Parkway and Turner Smith Road.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), pedestrian fatalities increase significantly in areas without adequate street lighting. Furthermore, research from Safe Kids Worldwide shows that having a crossing guard can reduce child pedestrian injuries by up to 44%. These statistics underline how crucial our request is for ensuring the safety of our community members.

We believe that implementing these changes will greatly improve the quality of life for all residents by making our neighborhood safer for everyone who lives here or passes through it every day. Please join us in urging city officials to prioritize these much-needed improvements by signing this petition now!
