The Issue

As a parent with children attending Mission Crest Elementary, Cedar Middle School, and Oak Hills High School in Hesperia, California, I am deeply concerned about the lack of safe walking routes and bus services to these schools. Every day is a struggle as it takes nearly two hours to drop off and pick up my children due to the heavy traffic and limited driving routes. This is not just my story but that of many parents in our community.

The absence of bus services has led to students often arriving late at school. More importantly, it poses a significant safety risk as there are no secure walking paths available. Our neighborhood - Mission Crest - along with surrounding areas urgently need reliable bus services for our children's safety and education.

According to Safe Routes To School National Partnership (2019), providing school buses can reduce traffic congestion by 15-30%, improving safety around schools significantly. Furthermore, The American School Bus Council states that school buses are designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries.

We urge the relevant authorities in Hesperia City Council, Hesperia Unified School District, and San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) to take immediate action on this issue. Please help us ensure the safety of our children by implementing necessary bus services for Mission Crest neighborhood students attending Oak Hills High School along with other nearby schools.
