Two 22-year-old girls, Samantha Zganjar and Chloe Handrich, suffered life-changing injuries when a reckless driver crashed through barricades on Water Street in Milwaukee, WI. Samantha endured the trauma of having five teeth knocked out, along with several severe facial and cranial fractures,  severe road rash, and other lacerations and extremity fractures. Chloe, on the other hand, is battling with a grade 4 liver laceration, a partially collapsed lung, a fractured tibia, severe pelvic fractures on both sides, a fractured sacrum into her hip joints, a large hematoma, a concussion, and severe road rash. 

These catastrophic injuries highlight an urgent need to reinforce traffic safety measures on Water Street, particularly on streets that are barricaded off. Implementing speed breakers combined with anti wrong-way drive spikes can significantly deter reckless driving and ensure the safety of pedestrians and local residents. Water Street, a bustling area that hosts many events and attracts crowds, requires these proactive measures to prevent further tragedies.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, wrong-way driving accounts for a considerable portion of traffic-related injuries and fatalities every year. By installing advanced traffic management systems like speed breakers and anti wrong-way spikes, Milwaukee can lead by example in reducing such incidents.
