Implement Safety Measures on Lawrence Ave, Harwood Heights

The Issue

I've been in a peril situation myself on the stretch of Lawrence Avenue between Oketo Ave and Over-hill Road in Harwood Heights, IL. Living on this strip, I've witnessed the aftermath of a tragic accident, including the most recent fatal incident. I am urged to take action to prevent further tragedies.

This specific section of Lawrence Avenue has become notorious for reckless driving, both day and night. The tragedy of losing lives cannot continue. Accidents consistently occur at nearly the same spot with alarming frequency. Just last year, this area witnessed a fatal accident and history is unfortunately repeating itself.

The situation is especially concerning because this area is inhabited by children and seniors who are at risk. Every day, residents, including myself, fear for our safety due to the negligent driving behaviors exhibited along this road. These drivers face no real repercussions, leaving an open path to repeated tragedies.

As residents of Harwood Heights, we deserve a safe environment. It's crucial to have tangible changes in place to protect our community. We propose that local and state government authorities install traffic lights and implement speed zones on Lawrence Avenue in the targeted stretch to deter reckless driving.

Traffic lights can help regulate the flow of traffic, reducing the possibility of collisions, while clearly marked speed zones will serve to remind drivers of the need for caution and responsibility. Immediate action is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all community members.

We need Harwood Heights’ local and state government to acknowledge the severity of these incidents and respond with effective preventative measures. Let us put an end to this ongoing hazard and make Lawrence Avenue a safer place for everyone.
