Implement safety measures for the Tay road bridge

Implement safety measures for the Tay road bridge
The Issue
In memory of my close friend Charlie, who we tragically lost last year. Recently, another soul was tragically lost in the same way, reigniting the anguish. It is time to put an end to these tragedies.
The Tay Road Bridge, while a vital connection for many commuters in Scotland, has unfortunately become a frequent site for suicides. The absence of sufficient safety measures is a glaring oversight that, if addressed, could save countless lives. The statistics speak for themselves – each life lost is not just a statistic but a family shattered, a community in mourning, a friend group ripped apart.
Incorporating proven safety interventions such as physical barriers, crisis hotline signage, and increased security patrols can make a significant difference. Bridges worldwide have successfully reduced suicide rates through such measures. For instance, after implementing barriers on the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the number of suicides dramatically decreased. These solutions are not only effective but necessary.
We understand the complexities involved in modifying a structure as significant as the Tay Road Bridge. However, the human cost of inaction is far too great. We must prioritize mental health and public safety by taking decisive action now.
Let us urge the local authorities and the Tay Road Bridge Joint Board to act swiftly and install preventive measures on the bridge. By working together, we can ensure that no more lives are lost to this preventable tragedy.
Please join me in this cause and sign this petition to implement safety measures on the Tay Road Bridge, transforming a site of grief into one of hope and safety. Your signature could help save lives.
For Charlie, Phoenix and every other life lost in this tragic way. The change must happen now.
