This is an urgent call to action that stems from a deeply personal and tragic event. Recently, Fort Lee High School became the scene of a horrific episode where a student was brutally stabbed in a school bathroom. Such incidents instill fear in the hearts of students, making them reluctant to use school facilities, and in this case, the bathrooms.

This has underscored the critical need for comprehensive safeguards within our educational institutions. As per the 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, approximately 20% of students in the US experienced bullying in school – a factor that substantially increases incidents of school violence (CDC, 2019). The incident at Fort Lee High School was an extreme manifestation of such violence and has shown the need for immediate intervention.

Our solution is straightforward, yet impactful - station aides in school bathrooms. Their presence would not only deter potential dangerous activities, but also provide a safe atmosphere in what should be harmless parts of the school environment. Ensuring our children's safety should be uncompromised - school should be a place that establishes a secure environment for learning, not fear.
