NZTA Denied Us — But We Aren’t Stopping.

After over a year of working through the official channels to reduce speed limits entering Oakura, NZTA has unfortunately denied our petition. While we have the backing of several local leaders, it clearly wasn’t enough to move the needle—yet.
I want to thank every one of you for your support so far. We are not giving up.
What’s next? I am drafting an appeal letter directly to the Minister of Transport, Chris Bishop, to ask for a formal intervention. To make this letter impossible to ignore, we need to show him the full strength of our community.
How you can help today:
The +1 Challenge: We are at 765 signatures. We need to hit 1,000 before the letter is sent. Please find one person—a neighbor, a spouse, or a friend—who hasn't signed yet and ask them to add their name.
Leave a Comment: If you haven’t already, please comment on the petition page about why this change matters to you. Personal stories about near-misses or family safety are incredibly persuasive to decision-makers.
Thank you for staying in this fight with us. Let’s get to 1,000!
Warmest Regards,
Eddie Sera
