I hope this plea for change resonates with you as it does with me and my family. Only last year, my sisters and I saw firsthand how abruptly our lives could change because of deer straying onto the roadways. Two of my sisters' vehicles met with severe damage as deer ambled onto the road while they were driving. The situation was even more critical for one of them since her young children were in the car and they were exposed to potential harm. I, too, had a frightful encounter when a deer charged in front of my vehicle, forcing me to apply sudden brakes to avoid hitting it. Tragically, a recent incident saw a deer hit, injured, and left agonizingly suffering on my sister's property. This ought to change.

Across the state, there are hundreds of thousands of cases like ours every year that end in vehicle damage, injury, and too often, loss of life for drivers as well as the deer. I appeal for a well-crafted, proactive strategy to be implemented that would ensure these innocent creatures are kept from straying onto our roadways. This plan could involve building wildlife crossings over highways, installing better roadside lighting, posting more warning signs or implementing other deterrents. We need to ensure driver safety and prevent undue suffering to the deer. 

I urge you, not only as an affected individual but as a member of our local community, to support our cause.
