The Issue

My ten-year-old daughter, like many other students in Hagerstown, battles adverse weather conditions, walking over twenty minutes to school every day. This journey includes navigating across treacherous train tracks and bustling streets. Regardless of precautions taken, prolonged exposure to harsh climates has even led her to develop a persistent cold, and my concerns for her safety grow daily.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated issue. Countless students have to navigate similar paths daily because they live outside the designated bus zones. We cannot turn a blind eye to our children's safety and well-being. They deserve a secure and comfortable transportation method to school - they deserve to have accessible bus stops.

According to a study by the American School Bus Council, school buses are the safe, effective, and preferred method of student transportation, accounting for over 25 million children commuting to school daily. We implore Hagerstown's school district to heed these statistics and adopt measures to extend their bus service beyond the current zones, ensuring students, like my daughter, no longer have to traverse unsafe terrains and daunting paths to receive their education.

The time for change is now. Let's ensure all Hagerstown students can safely get to school - sign this petition to implement safe and accessible transportation for all students in Hagerstown.
