We, the residents along Waimanu Road, Samabula, have had our vehicles (personal & company) involved in accidents and, written off in extreme cases,  due to over speeding and careless driving . The frequency of these accidents is alarming.

Our community needs immediate attention to this issue. We request the installation of road calming devices to make our streets safer. These could include speed bumps, rumble strips, or speed cameras and additional road markings and signage that have proven effective in reducing vehicle speeds and subsequently decreasing accident rates.

We have had at least five (5) accidents already from November 2022 to November 2023 and this will only increase if nothing is done. In one of these accidents, on November 13th 2023, a speeding vehicle (white pick up truck in the picture) damaged four (4) vehicles parked along the road and could have landed on a roof top. As recently as the morning of December 13th 2023, another vehicle went straight through a bend (at the right end of the picture), up and over the curb, through the bushes and down on to Edinburgh drive just after the Samabula junction.

We urge the local authorities in Suva to take immediate action towards making our roads safer for all residents along Waimanu Road and all road users - drivers, pedestrians, cyclists alike.
