Plastic pollution is damaging to both people and animals alike, but adapting to the use of reusable packaging would prevent this damage from progressing further. Witnessing parks and walking trails overrun with discarded plastic packaging has been far from a pleasant experience. When recreational spots are littered with trash, it takes away from the experience of visitors, however, wildlife faces much more devastating consequences. Entire ecosystems are destroyed by plastic pollution, and animals are killed from the plastic that makes its way into their food and water. Each year, at least 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in our environment as mentioned by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Unfortunately, this issue stems from our overconsumption and improper disposal of plastic packaging. Although reusable packaging can effectively contribute to curbing the issue as it significantly decreases plastic production and waste. I encourage local businesses to make the change to reusable packaging to prioritize the health of our planet.
