The Issue

I am writing to urge Merton Council to implement a residents permit parking zone on Liberty Avenue. Over the past few months, I have faced increasing difficulty in finding a parking space near my home. This parking challenge is primarily due to our street being a non-controlled parking zone. As a result, numerous bus drivers, commuters and gym goers use our street for parking throughout the day, and with the recent reduction in available spaces from the addition of more double yellow lines, the situation has become even more dire.

Compounding the problem is the upcoming opening of a David Lloyd gym at the end of this month. The anticipation of increased traffic and demand for parking will likely exacerbate the already severe lack of available spaces for residents. Many of my neighbours share similar concerns, as this inconvenience affects our daily lives and causes undue stress.

A residents permit parking zone will help to preserve parking spaces for us, the residents, and provide a sense of assurance that we can park near our homes without the constant worry of finding a spot. Controlled parking zones have proven effective in other areas of London, ensuring that local residents have prioritised access to parking and that the rules are adhered to, reducing non-resident usage.

I kindly request the support of my neighbours and community to sign this petition, urging the council to protect our street by implementing a residents permit parking zone. Together, we can improve the quality of life for residents and manage our street's parking problem more effectively. Your signature will help ensure our voices are heard by those who can make this important change. Please sign this petition and help us create a fair and manageable parking solution for our community.
