Implement Regulations on Veterinary Fees

This petition is one of 44 petitions in the movement "Vet prices in the UK."Learn more about the movement.

The Issue

I am a pet owner who has experienced the financial strain of escalating veterinary fees. Despite having pet insurance, I have found myself in situations where emergency vet services were required and the costs quickly escalated to my insurance's maximum limit, and even beyond it at times. This has resulted in significant personal expense.

This problem is not unique to me. Many pet owners are finding themselves in similar predicaments, with rising veterinary costs becoming a barrier to accessing necessary care for their pets. According to the American Pet Products Association (APPA), Americans spent $29.3 billion on veterinary care in 2019, an increase from $28 billion in 2018.

The lack of regulation around these fees means that prices can vary greatly from one clinic to another, making it difficult for pet owners to predict and budget for these expenses. This unpredictability can lead to delayed or avoided treatment which could potentially harm our beloved pets' health.

We need regulations that will ensure transparency and fairness in pricing within this industry while still ensuring vets are adequately compensated for their services. We call upon lawmakers and relevant authorities to implement regulations on veterinary fees so that no one is forced into debt or must make heartbreaking decisions due their inability to afford necessary care for their pets.

Please sign this petition if you believe that all pets deserve access to affordable healthcare regardless of their owner's financial situation.
