Implement Regulations for Low Noise Fireworks to Shield PTSD Sufferers, Pets, and Wildlife

Implement Regulations for Low Noise Fireworks to Shield PTSD Sufferers, Pets, and Wildlife
The Issue
As someone with several military veterans in my family who battle with the disturbing effects of loud noise, the issue of fireworks regulations is deeply personal. It's devastating to witness my loved ones, who already grapple with the invisible wounds of their service, being distressed by the explosive sounds of fireworks. Additionally, my own furry companions, like many pets, are sent into panic at the onset of these startling noises. Worst of all, every year a significant number of pets are lost, injured, or even killed due to their frightened reactions.
The detrimental effects of fireworks aren't limited to humans and their pets. Wildlife also suffers; being unaccustomed to the intrusive sounds, they often flee their habitats, increasing the risk of injury or death, particularly in urban areas. A study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that loud noises such as fireworks can lead to death in birds by flying into buildings or into the path of vehicles out of sheer panic (US Department of Agriculture, 2016).
The implementation of low noise fireworks is a viable option that can significantly mitigate these issues. A range of other countries, including the UK, have adopted low noise fireworks policies in certain areas. It's time for us to join these nations in their compassionate stance. Let's stand up for PTSD sufferers - our valiant veterans and others - and protect our pets and wildlife. Sign the petition to urge our legislative leaders to regulate the use of low noise fireworks.
