The Issue

Living in Buffalo, I've witnessed and heard countless accidents and red light runnings at intersections that could have been prevented. As a citizen of this community, I am compelled to speak on a cause that can save lives and protect our friends and neighbors from unnecessary harm. One effective measure we can take is implementing red light cameras at key intersections across our city.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, red light running is one of the leading causes of car crashes, resulting in hundreds of deaths every year nationwide.  In recent years, local reports show a  rise in vehicle accidents occurring at traffic lights, resulting in severe injury or even loss of life.

Red light cameras have proven to be a successful in other cities across the United States. A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that cities with these cameras have experienced a 21% reduction in fatal red light running. Cities like New York and Chicago have implemented red light cameras with great success, making their streets safer for drivers and pedestrians alike.

By installing these cameras at dangerous intersections, we can hold reckless drivers accountable and significantly reduce the risk of accidents. These cameras are an enforcement tool that works around the clock, capturing evidence of violations and sending a clear message that running red lights will not be tolerated in Buffalo.

It's time for us to take action and make our streets safer. I urge the City of Buffalo and local government officials to prioritize the installation of red light cameras at high-risk intersections. We owe it to ourselves, our families, and our community to do everything we can to prevent unnecessary tragedies on our roads.

Please join me in advocating for this crucial change. Sign this petition to show your support for the implementation of red light cameras in Buffalo, and together, we can make our city a safer place for everyone.
