I am at school a lot of the time, learning about various cultures, histories, and events. Yet, one important aspect of my own culture and religion, Ramadan and Eid, is often overlooked in our educational system. This oversight is not just about me – it also impacts almost 3.45 million other Muslims living in the United (Pew Research Center, 2017). Our holy month of Ramadan and the joyful celebration of Eid are not just traditions - they are vibrant parts of who we are and how we live and understand the world. Yet, this is rarely, if ever, reflected in what we learn at school. Let's change it. Let's have Ramadan and Eid introduced into school curriculum as an important part of religious diversity education. This will not only make Muslim students feel included, but it will also educate other students about the variety and richness of cultures which exist within our society.
