Implement Raised Pedestrian Crosswalks on Cedar Road for Enhanced Community Safety
Implement Raised Pedestrian Crosswalks on Cedar Road for Enhanced Community Safety
The Issue
There is an urgent need for increased safety measures around Cedar Elementary School. We advocate for establishing two raised, pedestrian-controlled crosswalks along Cedar Road, specifically at the intersections of Furn and Gould roads. These areas have heavy foot traffic of young students going to and from school daily. According to the National Association of City Transportation Officials, raised crosswalks have been shown to significantly decrease vehicle speeds, increasing visibility and safety for pedestrians. Furthermore, the Journal of Transport & Health states that they improve the walking environment, providing a safer passage, especially for the most vulnerable children. With these facts in mind, we urge our provincial government to prioritize the safety of our elementary school children and implement this vital measure. Please sign this petition to help make our community safer.
