I am a single pet owner with an old dog who has fallen ill recently. The frequency of my visits to the vet for consultations and tests is high, and the costs are steep. To manage this, I have had to use my annual leave days. This situation is not unique to me but mirrors the experiences of many other pet owners across our nation.

Pets are more than just animals; they are family members who need care and attention, especially as they age or fall ill. 

However, current employment laws do not recognize this need for dedicated time off work to care for pets. This leaves many pet owners in a difficult position - choosing between caring for their beloved pets or losing valuable income or job security.

We request that our government implement a provision for 'pet care leave'. This would allow individuals who own pets adequate time off work without having to sacrifice their personal leave days or risk job security.
