Our life took a tragic turn on August 12, 2023, when our loving son, Brendan Lee Davis-Hulse, was fatally struck by an out-of-state driver while crossing a crosswalk. Brendan, a kind-hearted 21-year-old, was merely trying to get home when existing pedestrian safety measures failed to protect him. With his loss, both our family and his younger brother Aidan, who considered him not just a sibling but a best friend, are left with an irreplaceable void.

We grieve, but not without purpose. The SUV that struck and that claimed Brendan's life is not an isolated incident but part of a larger national crisis. This was a preventable crash. According to the National Traffic Safety, there's a pedestrian death every 85 minutes in traffic crashes in the United States. This alarming rate underscores the urgency for immediate change.

We are demanding that the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) City Council, Public Works, The town Mayor take crucial steps to improve pedestrian safety. This includes introducing the option to display pedestrian-specific signs in the event of fatalities, similar to existing signs like “Drive Slow” or “Watch for Motorcycles”. Currently, such an option is noticeably absent, even as pedestrian deaths are on the rise.

Furthermore, we want CDOT and City Council to reconsider pedestrian lighting at intersections, specifically like Parker Road in Colorado & Mainstreet where Brendan was tragically killed. With the uprise of population over the decade we need safe crossing’s with yellow flashing lights, speed bumps yes it’s considered s highway but due to all the nightlife & events during the days pedestrians cross that intersection so much. We need prompt attention and our goal is people will not be able to go 100 mph around this area with speed bumps, as well as longer IRL time to allow pedestrians to cross. The current IRL time is 22 seconds certainly not enough time for anyone to cross safely at night cars are not able to see or know that Mainstreet has 5 plus more bars and people/pedestrians crossing at any given time for catching a ride. The ride could be a friend, uber, taxi, or a Lyft. We also want to focus on removing the right to turn on red to see if that would decrease pedestrian vs. vehicle accidents and fatalities. It is our belief that an extended pedestrian light duration could have helped prevent tragedy’s like Brendan's. We also want to see if Cars can have or be required to have safety measures to stop automatically for distracted or impaired drivers. No more slapping on the wrist with first offenses. DA's and Judges, Lawmakers need to hold accountability when accessing who gets a citation and who doesn't. Chemical and blood testing should be mandatory not an option. If you refuse you should be held accountable to get one done Portable breath test or immediate blood test drawn at the police station or nearest hospital for accurate results. Our son had his blood drawn way after his death from his chest cavity while the driver from out of town who killed our son walked away. State Farm Insurance was covered on the vehicle that ran over my son and because I was too much in shock I waited after "when the doorbell stops ringing" phase. As a mom I too failed to push for certain rights or money/lawsuits from the driver she actually stated "she wanted to pay me" something offered 150,000 from State Farm said "that's what the attorney's lowest amount was to be given to me as Brendan's next of kin" but due to the citation my son received "walking on red" -he tripped and started to jog to get passed the 6 lane highway including median areas and walk outs near O'Brien Park...where he used to play when he was a child those IRL lights he pushed didn't save his life. The driver was not cited and was "too hysterical" to take a blood test" I was on the phone with Brendan when he called asked for a ride home and he put his phone in his back pocket and pushed the pedestrian light via the camera from the bank. The driver was going 55mph or more and ran him over underneath her car. Brendan was covered in hot metal car parts, plastic car parts, and bilateral broken ribs, punctured heart and severe multiple blunt force trauma mostly to his trunk and head. He was killed instantly however an off duty nurse and parker PD officer started life saving measures to bring him back with 4 beats per minute. He was sent to Parker Advent hospital his death was prounounced exactly 30 minutes later at 9:54 when he was hit at 9:24pm. Exactly 30 minutes later and a 65,000 hospital bill. We need change now.
