Implement Pedestrian Push Buttons at Long Hill Crosswalks for Enhanced Safety

The Issue

NO NEED to donate it just goes to change.org, just sign the petition

November 12th will be burned into my head forever. In a flashing instant, a reckless driver changed my life forever. My husky and I were crossing at a pedestrian crosswalk at Long Hill, when a truck hit us. The driver did not halt sufficiently to allow us, pedestrians, a safe crossing. Had he looked both ways carefully, he would have definitely spotted us. Unfortunately, my loving husky, who was supposed to turn 4 this February, succumbed to the severe injuries on the way to the emergency veterinary hospital. Our family has been devastated and lost ever since.

This horrifying accident was not an isolated event. At the Long Hill crosswalks, such incidedents have turned into an alarming pattern, exposing the dire need for immediate safety interventions. Existing statistics narrate a grim story of pedestrian safety in our area. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 'pedestrian deaths accounted for 17% of all traffic fatalities in recent years' ('Traffic Safety Facts 2018', NHTSA).

To help mitigate the risks, we urge the local authorities to implement pedestrian push buttons on Long Hill cross walks. These push buttons will significantly enhance the safety of pedestrians, signalling and making drivers aware of the need to stop for pedestrian crossings.

Let our loss be a wake-up call, illuminating the path to change. Let's ensure that everyone crossing the road at Long Hill can do so safely without having to fear for their lives. Sign this petition and spread the word to make our crosswalks safer. We owe it to ourselves, and we owe it to the memory of our beloved canine friends, like my Husky.
