We call on the Federal Government to repeal the outdated ban on nuclear energy. Australia needs a clear, strict regulatory framework that allows clean, modern nuclear technology to be part of our future energy grid.

Why This Matters
Australia’s energy grid is in trouble. Our old coal stations are closing down, and wind and solar alone cannot carry the heavy load required by our industries, small businesses, and households 24/7. We need reliable, around-the-clock power that doesn't compromise our emissions targets.
Right now, Australia is the only country in the G20 with a legal ban on civil nuclear energy. This restriction (built into the EPBC Act 1999) blocks us from even investigating a proven, zero-emissions solution that over 30 developed nations already use safely to secure their grids and lower power bills. Additionally we hold the largest uranium reserves (29%) but policy restrictions means that almost 100% of all uranium mined is shipped overseas.

A Balanced Mix, Not a Replacement
This isn't about stopping renewables; it’s about energy security. By lifting the ban, Australia can look at the full picture:
Replacing old coal plants: Next-generation reactors can plug right into existing grid infrastructure where coal plants are retiring.
Flexible regional power: Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are compact, safe, and can power regional industrial hubs.
True zero emissions: Nuclear energy generates massive, reliable baseload power with zero greenhouse gases.

It’s Time to Act
A blanket ban stops scientific investment, blocks feasibility studies, and leaves Australia lagging behind the rest of the world.
